On being a political independent

Interesting letter in The Telegraph

Can I just make one thing clear? Becoming an Independent has not meant that I have joined another political group; I hope that my independence is of the fierce but open variety. I am intent on working with anyone who will work with me for the benefit of Tarporley Ward residents and maybe even those beyond the boundaries of the four parishes.

Being your Independent councillor has been an eye-opener, a heart warming one; if that isn’t too gruesome a mixed metaphor. My workload has increased as has my circle of friends. I have been approached in the street and at events by people saying things like, “I see you are OUR councillor now, putting us before any party, ” or “What’s it like being allowed to think for yourself?” I admit that the first comment made me a bit sad as I have always aimed to serve everyone who needed my help.
